Who else wants to retire early at a farm?
Farm bug alert! Watch out for the early symptoms.
A simple, modern farmhouse of happiness, surrounded by plants and ricefields | Image generated thru Microsoft CoPilot
Do you also find yourself stopping?
On images of farms and farmhouses
While scrolling on social media?
Do you imagine what it’s like to have a simple life?
A life of little worries on a remote farm far away from the big world problems
Feeding chickens
Playing with the dogs
Or sleeping with the cat
Growing your food
Harvesting when it’s time
Then, enjoying happy meals with your loved ones
Watch out for the early symptoms:
An ache for simplicity
A nasty avoidance of complexity
And a constant yearning for fresh air and green sights
If you experienced any of the above...
You may be suffering from the farm bug.
I caught the farm bug this year.
The symptoms worsened.
I ended up buying a farm in our province.
Yes, you read that right.
I’m the future owner of a piece of land.
(And who knows, I might become a farmer too.)
But that’s jumping too far ahead.
Looking back…
At the time I said yes to the seller, I thought
If the world reaches its turning point and my adventures fail me
I have at least this peaceful piece of land to return to.
That’s what fear of the future can do to you.
You imagine the worst.
And you prepare for it.
Unhealthy habit or not? You tell me.
I’ve reflected a lot on the past decade of my work adventures.
And there’s one recurring lesson for me.
You can never be too prepared for the future.
You’ll have to build a farmhouse of skills ASAP.
You’ll have to plant the seeds early.
Have the patience to let trees grow.
Harvest when it’s time.
The earlier you start, the better your chances
Of getting an abundant harvest of the fruits of your labor
Plus, you'll want the time to enjoy the fruits too.
Not when you’re older, but right in the moment
Enriching yourself with experiences
Experiences that make your heart leap with joy
If you ask me, when is a good time to start thinking about your future, retired life?
It’s not too early to begin.
Whether it’s on a remote farm somewhere
Or a lifetime of adventures all over the world
Or a safe and comfortable space with your loved ones
Whatever you decide for your future, what’s the small thing you can start now?
PS. This week, I’m launching the 5-Day Happiness Audit Challenge.
It’s a challenge for migrant professionals who want to take the stress out of planning for post-migrant adventures.
If you don’t plan to be a migrant forever but don’t have a plan yet after your work-abroad adventure years, join the challenge to create your future happiness blueprint.
Save the date: 27 November.
Look out for happy emails/posts starting Wednesday.😄
