The future of work in the age of AI
And how you can prepare yourself
Why you need to rethink your career choices
I did not study accounting to work as an auditor in the corporate world.
I studied accounting to gain money to improve my family's finances and send my four siblings to school, so that one day when I've stabilized our family situation, I can do what I truly want.
Along the way, I saw doing audits in a public accounting firm as a stepping stone.
And don't we all?
Don’t we all use our work as a stepping stone for our real dreams?
But here’s the thing.
At one point, you become so invested in your current work that you forget why you wanted it in the first place.
You forget your original dreams.
You become complacent.
Because after all, you’re already in a good place, surviving although not thriving.
Not yet.
So, what will lead you from a place of satisfying your physical needs to a life of purpose and fulfillment?
Many people look for meaning in their careers.
But that meaning is as elusive as the next promotion or raise.
Then, here comes AI.
And suddenly, you hear news about colleagues and friends losing their jobs, facing the risk of becoming obsolete.
That’s when you hold on more to your current job.
Because you’re afraid of letting go.
Because you’re afraid of leaving yourself unprotected
But every day felt like waiting for the ax to fall.
You need a different approach in the age of AI and uncertainty.
Because let me share a hard truth.
The corporate promise has already been shattered.
Working for the same company, with the same job, and with the same skills until you retire no longer serves you.
No one is safe forever.
Not in the traditional box of employment.
By continuing to exist in the box, you limit your potential.
You exclude yourself from the possibilities.
And here’s the possibility that you’re missing out.
A chance to shape a profession aligned with your passion and strengths
That’s what a portfolio career offers you.
A chance to reinvent yourself
But what do you expect to gain when you transition from a different career to a new one?
Where do you find the biggest challenge in terms of finding opportunities?
And what are the practicalities you need to know to have a successful portfolio career?
