Supercharge your S-cells
How to hone and unlock your Super Saiyan
Are you an Asian kid who grew up in the 90s?
Whether you’re an anime fan or not, you might have seen the Dragon Ball series at one point.
Remember the scenes where Goku or Vegeta transform into Super Saiyans?
Their entire bodies glow.
Bulging muscles and game face on
To them, anything is possible.
Close friends knew I'm an anime fan (although not a hard-core Dragon Balls fan).
I've seen a few afternoon reruns of the Dragon Ball series while I was younger.
One day, while my adult self was reading something for work, I recalled the Super Saiyan scenes.
I got curious.
And my adult self couldn’t stop Googling what made Super Saiyan transformations possible.
So here goes.
The secret formula of Super Saiyan mode?
The presence of S-cells paired with an extreme emotion such as anger or frustration
(I've read the Wiki entry on this anime.)
So why did I bring this up?
You see, even though we don’t live in the worlds of Goku and Vegeta (and theirs is an imagined world anyway), the Super Saiyan concept can still inspire your journey.
We all begin as ordinary people.
We lead ordinary lives.
We do ordinary work.
Nothing wrong with that.
But from time to time, something triggers us.
A strong emotion
Anger
Despair
Desperation
Fear
Frustration
Grief
Hopelessness
And this powerful emotion can be the charge to your S-cell.
What does your S-cell consist of?
Your skills.
When was the last time you ever felt strongly about something?
And when you transformed yourself because of that overriding emotion?
Mine happened several years ago.
My overriding emotion was anger.
Anger at my lack of power
Anger at my inadequacy
Anger at the people close to me
Because of that anger, I was anxious and tense most of the time.
I used that anger to fuel myself to achieve more. I went a bit too hard on myself. But that time, I needed all the fuel I could get.
In my case, I channeled negative energy to drive results. But in hindsight, after I’ve spent all that anger, I felt empty and exhausted.
So, linking back to our Super Saiyan concept, there's a reason why you can't activate your S-cells all the time.
It's because activating the Super Saiyan exacts a price on your well-being.
Using your S-cells (or skills) can drain you.
But when you activate your S-cell to become a Super Saiyan and fully know what you’re capable of, will you channel that energy to be a force for good?
When do you start charging your S-cells?
While you’re in a period of rest and ordinariness, that’s the time to build up your S-cells reserve.
Here are some ways to start honing the S-cells that will trigger the Super Saiyan mode:
Get informed and seek credible information. Read about the world around you, watch also for information, not only for entertainment, and listen to the stories of every individual you meet.
Challenge your existing assumptions.
Seek and engage in meaningful conversations.
Get out of your small corner of the world and travel if you can. When you do travel, spot those best practices that you can bring back with you. Bring back best practices, experiences, and stories, not more material souvenirs.
Coach and train future super Saiyans. (Believe me, S-cells are transferable.)
What else would make a difference in your Super Saiyan transformation?
